Beginning the week of June 8th, we're launching our newest training cycle at CrossFit 1864: The Comeback.

The name means different things to different people.

For some members, it's about getting back to training consistently after a busy season at work.

For others, it's about returning from injury, rebuilding confidence, or chasing goals that have been sitting in the background for too long.

For some, it's about proving to themselves that they can still get stronger, fitter, and healthier regardless of age or experience.

For us as coaches, The Comeback represents something else as well.

A return to some of the principles that made CrossFit one of the most effective training methodologies in the world.

Why We're Making a Change

If you've been training with us over the past year, you've likely participated in one of our structured strength cycles.

These cycles focused on repeating key lifts over a number of weeks while gradually increasing volume, intensity, or load.

The results speak for themselves.

  • Personal records
  • Improved movement quality
  • Greater confidence under the barbell
  • Stronger athletes

Structured strength work absolutely works.

We're not moving away from strength training.

Far from it.

What we're doing is broadening the focus.

One piece of feedback we consistently hear is that while traditional strength cycles are effective, they can sometimes feel repetitive.

Athletes know exactly what's coming every week.

The challenge becomes predictable.

The excitement begins to fade.

As coaches, we believe training should be effective.

We also believe it should be enjoyable.

The best programme in the world only works if people continue showing up.
The Comeback Starts June 8th

More variety. More skill development. More complete fitness.

The Comeback is designed to help you build strength, fitness, confidence, and consistency while keeping training engaging and enjoyable.

Returning to the Roots of CrossFit

CrossFit became successful because it developed broad fitness.

It wasn't designed around mastering one lift.

It wasn't designed around maximizing one physical quality.

It was designed around developing all ten recognised physical skills:

  • Cardiovascular endurance
  • Stamina
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Coordination
  • Agility
  • Balance
  • Accuracy

The athletes who thrive in CrossFit are those who can adapt.

One day they're lifting heavy.

The next day they're running.

The next day they're upside down.

The next day they're climbing ropes, jumping on boxes, or learning a new skill.

The goal was never to become the best at one thing. The goal was to become good at everything.

What Will Training Look Like?

One question we expect to hear is:

“What exactly is changing?”

The answer is simple.

We're moving away from a rigid week-to-week strength progression and toward a more flexible General Physical Preparedness approach.

More Variety

Rather than seeing the same lifts every week for months at a time, you'll be exposed to a broader range of movements and loading patterns.

Some weeks may focus on heavy triples.

Others may challenge muscular endurance.

Some may prioritise speed and explosiveness.

Others may focus on movement quality and positioning.

Better Class Flow

Strength work will often complement the workout rather than feeling disconnected from it.

Sessions will feel more cohesive and purposeful.

More Complete Fitness

By rotating different training stimuli throughout the week, we can continue building strength while also developing endurance, coordination, skill, and athleticism.

More Fun

Variety keeps athletes mentally engaged and motivated to keep showing up.

Consistency drives results.

Enjoyment supports consistency.

Will I Still Get Stronger?

The short answer is yes.

Absolutely.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions people have whenever they hear the word "variety."

Variety does not mean randomness.

Every session still has a purpose.

Every training week still has a purpose.

Every month still has a purpose.

We're simply using a wider variety of tools to achieve those goals.

You'll still lift heavy.

You'll still challenge yourself.

You'll still track progress.

You'll still have opportunities to set personal records.

The Comeback Begins With Benchmarks

Every successful training cycle needs a starting point.

That's why we'll kick things off during the week of June 8th with two benchmark lifts.

3 Rep Back Squat

The back squat remains one of the most important strength movements in all of fitness.

It develops lower-body strength, stability, power, coordination, and confidence.

Your three-rep squat will give us an excellent baseline from which to measure progress.

3 Rep Deadlift

The deadlift is one of the most functional movements we perform.

It teaches proper lifting mechanics while building strength throughout the posterior chain.

Your three-rep deadlift will provide another valuable benchmark as we move through the cycle.

Benchmarks allow us to look back and recognise how far we've come.

A New Approach to Gymnastics

Strength isn't the only area evolving.

Our gymnastics programming is changing as well.

We're shifting our focus toward building a broader foundation.

Every week, athletes can expect dedicated gymnastics work designed to improve:

  • Strict pull-up strength
  • Upper-body pulling capacity
  • Dip strength
  • Core stability
  • Midline control
  • Positional awareness
  • Body control

These fundamentals support every advanced gymnastics movement we perform.

The goal isn't simply learning advanced skills. The goal is becoming a stronger athlete.

Why This Works So Well at CrossFit 1864

One of the unique advantages we have at CrossFit 1864 is our class size.

Our classes are intentionally capped at 10 athletes.

That means coaching never becomes crowd control.

It remains coaching.

We can spend more time refining movement.

We can spend more time providing feedback.

We can spend more time helping athletes find the right stimulus for their current ability level.

For members, that means:

  • Better coaching
  • Better movement quality
  • Better scaling options
  • Better athlete development
  • Better overall experience

What Success Looks Like

At the end of The Comeback, success won't simply be measured by a number on the barbell.

Success will look like:

  • Showing up consistently
  • Moving better
  • Learning new skills
  • Feeling more confident
  • Recovering faster
  • Building strength
  • Improving fitness
  • Enjoying training

Of course, we hope you'll hit personal records too.

But fitness is bigger than any single lift.

The real goal is becoming a stronger, healthier, and more capable version of yourself.

Welcome to The Comeback

Over the coming months you'll experience challenging workouts, new opportunities for growth, benchmark testing, skill development, and plenty of moments that remind you why you started training in the first place.

Trust the process.

Embrace the variety.

Focus on consistency.

Celebrate progress.

And remember that every workout is another step forward.

We're excited to begin this journey with you.

Welcome to The Comeback.

See you in class.
